Chemical Make-Up

Picture
Each tablet of rohypnol contains from 1 to 2 mg of flunitrazepam, the actual drug name. Now changed to one mg or less, it is similar to the chemical composition of Valium, although ten times stronger.

Rohypnol depresses the activity of the nerve cells in the body by binding to the γ-aminobutyric acid, or GABA-A, receptor which tells the body that the nerve cells need to be less active. Flunitrazepam activates these receptors, connecting to those nerve cells involved with anxiety, memory, sedation and coordination in specific (Choy).
